ODILE · Dance Theatre × Artificial Intelligence

When the machine dances — what remains of us?

Machines write books, paint images, compose music. In 2026, that is no longer the future — it is your everyday life. ODILE asks the question behind it — not on a talk show, but on a stage. And you can be part of it from the very beginning.

01 The moment we live in

The greatest upheaval of our generation has a blind spot.

Artificial intelligence is being negotiated everywhere right now: in boardrooms, in parliaments, in school committees, at kitchen tables. Mostly it's about efficiency, jobs, risks — about numbers. What almost nobody is seriously investigating: What does this technology do to the most human thing about us — our creativity?

The question is no longer whether machines can create. They do, every day, millions of times. The real question is: What becomes of human creation when it gets company? Competition? A counterpart? Nobody knows. And that is exactly why someone has to try it — publicly, radically, with full commitment.

“The question is no longer whether machines are creative. But what becomes of us when they are.”
Brigitte Breternitz & Christopher Peterka
02 The dream

One evening. Two choreographies. And you won't know which one is human.

ODILE is dance theatre built on the oldest double image in stage history: Odette and Odile, the white and the black swan — two figures, one body, almost impossible to tell apart. With us, they dance again. Except that this time, one choreography comes from a human life and the other from a machine.

1

Two halves, one evening

The same dancers, the same stage, the same musical world. One half of the evening was choreographed by Brigitte — with 25 years of stage experience. The other by an AI, guided by intention instead of command.

2

You won't know which is which

The programme won't tell you. You watch, feel, compare — and decide for yourself where you recognise the human. Or whether you do at all.

3

Then we talk

Only after the curtain falls is the answer revealed. What remains is perhaps the most honest answer to the question of human and machine that a stage can give — experienced, not claimed.

That is the dream: a work that doesn't comment on this era of upheaval, but embodies it. Developed in Cologne, documented from day one, made for stages far beyond.

03 Who is behind it

Two people who bring half a lifetime to this question.

04 Why we're asking you — instead of waiting

This subject moves faster than any funding jury.

Of course we're applying for public funding — those applications are already under way. But the honest maths looks like this: a cultural funding application takes months until a decision and often half a year until payout. Corporate sponsors need committees, budget rounds, fiscal years. AI moves in weeks. If we wait until the institutions are ready, others will answer the question — or worse: nobody will.

So we're reversing the order. The first €10,000 don't come from a jury, but from a hundred people who know us — or who sense that something is being created here that they'll want to have seen from the start. No anonymous crowdfunding on a platform, but a direct circle. A hundred people, a hundred euros on average: that's how we begin. Not someday. Now.

05 What your money is needed for

The first €10,000 — explained to the euro.

Fair pay from day 1~ €5,000The first performers we develop material with are paid from the very first day. Nobody dances “for the honour” with us — that's principle, not marketing.
Rehearsal space & equipment~ €2,500Studio rentals in Cologne, recording and motion equipment for the first development weekends in autumn 2026.
Production & documentation~ €1,500The project is documented on film and in writing from day one — this later becomes the film about the work.
Compensation for work delivered~ €1,000Website, AI tools and infrastructure have already been privately pre-financed. A fair share of that is reimbursed — transparent and capped.

And to be perfectly clear: this is not a charity.

ODILE is not non-profit, not pro bono, not philanthropy. We are building a work that must sustain itself economically in the medium term — through performances, licences, the film. And yes: both of us want and need to earn money with it eventually, otherwise we can't keep it running. So you are not donating. You are buying real value and making a production possible to which we have long committed our own time, our own money and our names. We believe this honesty is exactly what this subject deserves.

The circle is just opening. The first names will appear here — maybe yours.
08 The honest answers
Why no GoFundMe, no Kickstarter?
Because we know you — and you know us. Platforms lend trust to strangers and charge fees and data for it. We need neither: you buy directly from us, every euro stays in the project, and your contact isn't a hotline but Brigitte and Christopher.
What exactly happens with my money?
The breakdown is above on this page, to the euro: fair pay from day one, rehearsal space and equipment, documentation, compensation for work already delivered. We'll keep you up to date on progress right here.
What if the piece never happens?
Let's say it as it is: your digital benefits (name, making-of, credits) are delivered immediately and remain yours. Should rehearsal or premiere be cancelled without replacement, we refund the corresponding share — that is your right and our self-image. Details in the terms of sale (German).
Can I withdraw from the purchase?
For the digital benefits, your right of withdrawal expires with your express consent to immediate performance; for scheduled events there is no statutory right of withdrawal (Sec. 312g (2) No. 9 German Civil Code). You confirm both transparently during checkout. Full details: cancellation policy (German).
I want to give more than €1,000 — or join as a company.
Wonderful. From €2,500 the world of partner packages begins — with real value for brands and teams. Write to peterka@gannaca.com.
Will I get an invoice?
Yes. Immediately after purchase you receive a receipt and contract confirmation by email; a formal invoice is available on request at peterka@gannaca.com.
The curtain is still closed

Be there earlier than everyone else.

One evening in Cologne, a curtain will open, and nobody in the audience will know whether a human or a machine is speaking. You will be able to say: I made this possible.
